The first grading period of the season is now complete following five meetings and what a start to the year it has been for the formula. The new grades will now come into effect from the next meeting at Knockhill on 23rd May.
Thereās been plenty of movement throughout the field, with some drivers rewarded for consistency and strong finishes, while others have found themselves dropping back after difficult starts to the season.
The biggest headline sees 10 Marcus WorthĀ move up to the superstar grade, while 73 Craig UnderhillĀ drops back down to red after previously running from the superstar grade.
One of the standout stories of the grading period is undoubtedly 121 Josh Malt. After only recently making the step up through the grades, Josh has now climbed into the red gradeĀ alongside 291 Dan Baker. Incredibly, Josh actually scored enough grading points to reach superstar status, however under the current rules a driver can only move up by a maximum of two grades during a grading period ā meaning the jump from yellow to red is the furthest possible move. A huge achievement regardless and proof of just how strong his opening run of meetings has been.
Moving up into blueĀ are 83 Heidi ClarkĀ and 455 Ryan Grindey. Heidi in particular has had a cracking start to the season with some solid race finishes throughout the grading period, proving once again that reliability and finishing races is absolutely key in this formula.
Dropping back into blue are 22 Luke Wilson, 31 Paul Higgins, 46 Karl Brazier, and 667 Liam Sankey. Lukeās drop perhaps doesnāt tell the full story of his season so far, having attended every meeting but unfortunately being forced to sit out the opening two meetings after suffering engine trouble in heat one at Skegness.
Drivers moving up into yellowĀ are 103 Katie Billington, 261 Simon Burgess, 307 Hannah Chappell, and 512 James Bishop, while dropping down into yellow are 30 Tim Dyche, 159 Jon Cooper, 228 Alan Sturgess, and 555 Sam Woods.
Meanwhile 37 Fred Tebbenham, 271 Jack Helliwell, and 330 Charlotte DycheĀ all move back down into the white grade.
All other drivers remain in their current grades.
Looking at the grading points table after five meetings, 192 Max HardingĀ currently leads the way on 138 points ahead of 1 James FaultlessĀ on 127 and 121 Josh MaltĀ on 114 after a hugely impressive start to the year.
With new roof colours now set heading into Knockhill, the battle resets once again as drivers look to defend their new grades, work their way back up the ladder, and continue the fight for championship honours through the rest of the season.
