Second grading period ends

Taunton - 26th/27th June Truck Show

The modstox enjoyed 2 days as support racing at the Devon Truck Show based on the old Smeatharpe airfield.  The weekend opened with Alastair Needham (16) taking the flag in the first race beating local man Marcus Worth (10) and Jonathon Clare (294), who was making his first appearance of the season.  The next 2 races were taken by old-time racer of many formulae, Ian Higgins (29) who had hired one of the Clare cars for the weekend with son Joe (229).  Ian took both heat 2 and the final to prove that he still hasn't lost how to pilot a stock car, including one that he hadn't sat in before 10am on the Saturday.  Marcus Worth was once again the bridesmaid in second with Alex Langdell finishing the podium.  The final saw Higgins lead Jonathon Clare and Dan BIllington at the drop of the chequered flag.  Dan finished the day off with victory in the all-comers race with Jonathon Clare claiming another second.

The Sunday saw race wins for Dave Kilby starting and finishing the day with a win and Joe Higgins showed his dad he could win too by taking a heat.  The main feature was the West Country Championship, the grid decided by the draw of a playing card.  Jonathon Clare showed his good form from the previous day was continuing with victory.

Birmingham - 10th July

A second visit to the Wheels raceway and Alex Langdell demonstrated his speed on the tarmac oval by consistently finishing in the top 4 including winning the opening race to a 2nd heat 4th and 2nd in the final.  The second heat went to Dave Kilby who chased down long time leader Ian Wood (24) for his third race win in 2 meetings.  The final belonged to Lewis Wilson (23), making his debut in brother Luke's car and starting off the front of the whites, who drove away from the field to win only his third race after to 9th places in the heats.

Northampton - 11th July

A short notice meeting attracted 13 racers on a hard but slick track.  The first heat was taken by Alastair Needham, breaking through form his blue grade start.  It then became the Paul Higgins show as he reeled of a heat 2 win and then final on a track that had been heavily watered before both races.

Buxton - 18th July

Amazingly a hot and sunny day greeted drivers at Buxton with Dave Brawn collecting his first race win of the season in heat 1, Alex Langdell took yet another win in heat 2 and Dan Billington ensured a ninth different final winner by winning the main race in his sister's car due to unfixed damage on his car from Taunton.

New grades following Buxton have seen Alastair Needham move up to Superstar with his consistent scoring as he leads the grading points table.  Dan Billington's final win has helped propel him up from the yellow grade to top blue, missing red by just a single point.  Lewis Wilson is the only other driver to move up a grade, joining the yellows for his next race.
